Microchip Technology Inc. has introduced a new three-dimensional (3D) gesture recognition controller with the lowest system cost in the automotive industry, providing a robust single-chip solution for advanced automotive HMI designs. A new addition to Microchip's easy-to-use 3D gesture controller family, the MGC3140 is the first 3D gesture controller available for cars.
Microchip's new gesture controller is based on capacitive technology and is ideal for a wide range of applications that reduce driver distraction and ease of vehicle operation, making it ideal for navigation infotainment systems, sun visor operation, interior lighting and other applications. . This technology also supports the opening of the foot control door and any other features that the manufacturer wishes to integrate into the car with simple gestures. The MGC3140 is AEC-Q100 certified by the Automotive Electronics Council to meet the stringent electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements of automotive systems. Each 3D gesture system includes a sensor and a Microchip gesture controller, the sensor can be made of any conductive material, and the gesture controller is built for a specific application.
Fanie Duyenhage, vice president of Microchip's Human Interface Business Unit, said: "With the MGC3140, we are using proven gesture technology to provide an interactive human-machine interface that allows drivers to focus more on driving. Microchip is committed to increasing adoption. Touch and gesture controllers and advanced technical support power the automotive market. These devices provide customers with cost-effective gesture solutions without compromising the interior design of the car."
Existing solutions (such as infrared and time-of-flight technologies) can be costly and perform poorly under bright or direct sunlight, but the MGC3140 provides stable sensing performance in full light and harsh environments. . Other solutions on the market also have physical limitations that require a large amount of infrastructure and space to be integrated into the vehicle. The MGC3140's ergonomic internal design allows HMI designers to innovate with fewer physical constraints because the sensor can be any conductive material and can be hidden from view.
development tools
The Emerald Evaluation Kit provides a convenient evaluation platform for 3D gesture recognition controllers, including standard printed circuit boards (PCBs) in the MGC3140 controller, PCB-based sensors (for recognizing gestures) and support for ease of use. All necessary cables, software, and documentation for the user experience. All components are compatible with Microchip's Aurea software development environment and support all Microchip 3D gesture controllers.
Pricing and availability
The MGC3140 currently supports sample applications and bulk ordering, and pricing is available upon request.
